HOW DID VILLAGE WOMEN GO FROM "WHISPERS TO VOICES"?

The directory "From Whispers to Voices" of Women's Development and Enterprise Groups in Azerbaijan has been prepared. The book created under this interesting name is a joint project of the Azerbaijan Rural Women's Association and USAID. The catalog includes the activities of 50 groups covering 700 women in 23 regions, motivational success stories, public representation, local and international cooperation, and remarkable photos. Most of these groups are quite popular in the country, even the group members are recognized as role models in their regions. But there are groups that are in a new stage of development. They need promotion through directory to expand and diversify their business.

But why "From Whispers to Voices"? ARWA chairperson Gulbaniz Ganbarova answers this question as follows:
"It was not easy to create a national network of Women's Development Groups in the country. Because even though our women in the villages are incredibly capable, hardworking and enterprising, sometimes they had difficulty making their voices heard. We succeeded in raising these fragile whispers to confident voices from the family, village, community, and district levels."
The foreword to the catalog was written by Hijran Huseynova, the chairperson of the Family, Women and Children's Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Ilhama Gadimova, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and Michael Nirbas, the director of USAID's mission in Azerbaijan.

H. Huseynova: "Dear ladies, your hard work, tireless work, and ability will take you to where you want to be in life. This is just the beginning! " M. Nirbas: "This publication will allow the business community to better understand the existing entrepreneurial potential of Azerbaijani rural women."

Sadagat Kahramanova, deputy chairwoman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Problems, and Matt Weber, head of the USAID organization's Private Sector Development Support project, spoke about the benefits of the catalog in terms of more efficient communication of women's groups with both local and foreign clients, and access to wide markets. The regional presentation of the catalog will take place on February 22 in the city of Barda.
